I would recommend starting with "One for the Money" and following the series. Stephanie Plum and the rest of the cast of characters are an absolute riot. I didn't care as much for her romance books - they lost a lot of the humor that makes her so fun to read. You'll laugh your butt off! I like the Stephanie Plum books the best. It is easy to keep them in order One for the Money 2 for the Dough etc.

The relationships build as the books go along. In the later ones a lot of the humor is based on what you already know about the characters. Agree that the romances are not that great. If you ever do audio books I'm told this series is very funny in that format.
