In Boast Busters , Derpy is seen standing in the crowd for Trixie's show, flying above the crowd, back down on the ground, in the crowd looking at Twilight, then finally glaring at Snips and Snails. In Dragonshy , Derpy is seen being chased in the park by Parasol. She later seen again clearing the smoke. In Look Before You Sleep , she is seen taking down a loose branch. In Bridle Gossip , Derpy isn't seen.

In Swarm of the Century , she is seen flying in the park. In Winter Wrap Up , Derpy is seen in the crowd wearing a blue jacket listening to the mayors speech. Later she is flying up to the weather, then she's seen kicking clouds with Parasol. Then, she's seen blowing away clouds with Parasol and Medley , and later spiraling up into the sky with them. Finally, Derpy is seen standing in the crowd looking up at the mayor and Twilight. In Call of the Cutie , she is seen at Diamond Tiara 's cute-ceanera.

In Fall Weather Friends , Derpy first appears watching the iron pony competition and dr. Soon after, she's watching the football portion of the competition. Then, she's seen holding the banner for Rainbow Dash. Later on, she watches the start of the Runnning of the Leaves. She is then seen standing by the finish line. Originally, Derpy commonly referred to as "Derpy Hooves" first appeared in the first half of the pilot episode, "Friendship is Magic: Part 1" where she was seen in the background at Twilight Sparkle's surprise party.

Notably different from the other background ponies, she had her eyes crossed in an animation error and her mouth was scrunched up in an odd manner. She was nicknamed "Derpy" by the fans after the slang term "Derp", which implied an often briefly absent minded behavior or careless mistake, often associated with eyes not aligned correctly or crossed.

Needless to say the animators of the show caught on to this and ran with it. Often used as a hidden "Where's Waldo" type Easter eggs in many episodes, Derpy Hooves has evolved into one of the most popular characters.

She's often been given subtle nods in many "My Little Pony" types media outside of the show, including trading cards, a SDCC exclusive figure, and most recently the comic series being produced by IDW Publishing. Outside of that anything about the character is usually always fan created. What's known of her is that she's a mail pony, has a bubble patterned cutie mark and has a taste for muffins. She also seen frequently paired up with Time Tuner aka Dr.

Whooves though this isn't really stated by the show runners. A running fan gag with her is that she often does the opposite of a task given to her. For example, if asked to fix up a building, she'll demolish it, while asking to destroy it will result in her building it. This is unintentional on her part of course as Derpy's only trying to help. Derpy Hooves makes her first appearance.

Most notably in the background of the surprise party Pinkie Pie threw, where her signature "derp face" caught fan's attention. Catching the attention of the show's producer, Lauren Faust, a similarly identical pegasus named "Ditzy Doo" played a small part, failing to go lead the southern birds back for the spring, instead flying north.

In a brief scene, Twilight Sparkle ignores Pinkie Pie's ominous pre-cognitive senses that something would fall out of the sky. In return, she has a number of large, clearly heavy objects like pianos and anvils falling on her. This was then shown to have been Derpy's fault, as she was delivering those objects on a truck with other pegasus ponies, and accidentally dropped the load.

You know what I think would be cool? After all the controversy I think they should give her a new name every time she is mentioned on the show, as a joke. It wouldn't have to happen every episode, just once or twice a season. And it could stay very low key and background-y.

For example:. Maybe in one episode a group of ponies are working together to build something and Twilight calls out to Derpy: "Muffins, can you fly this wrench up to to Bonbon on the scaffolding please? Now who saw the pig last? She's never going to be a main character so it's not like it will really effect the continuity of the show in a meaningful way, and it would be a nice fan nod. Plus I think it would be funny to hear all the different names they come up with for her.

She has been referred to by both Ditzy Doo and Derpy in the show. The fans will always know her as Derpy. I guess that name wouldn't fly as well in the world of children's marketing, so they had to make up a name for her to sell.

I'm pretty sure it won't have any impact on the show though. Ya know Although I can agree that Derpy is a name I will always remain fond, I can understand why the writers would choose to steer far away from it. A lot of fans won't like to hear it but face it: the name will always be associated with some form of foolishness, stupidity or lack of mental capacity, and subsequent complaints from parents, interest groups and haters.

Yea I really think the writers and creators have a strong incentive to distance themselves from that type of image.

Derpy can and will live on in the show and in the fandom as a clumsy and silly pony, but its understandable why there's a desire to move past that. As for Muffins, its not a terrible name, if not for the fact that it was Derpy's 1st original line in the show, but I can live with it. She would still be the same silly grey pegasus I always knew,. She was "Derpy" in canon if only briefly. So I will always know her as Derpy Hooves. By the way, I think it's great that they're giving her a lot of recognition in the show.

By the way, I'm still glad that in the episode they never said Derpy Hooves. Sorry guys, that surname is just really dumb. Whatever, her name is Ditzy to me and always will be unless its said offically in the show or by the creators.
